BEETS ME!
This evening. I boiled a pot of beets to use for a salad later and, of course, I decided against wasting the beet water that was left behind. This reminded me of the benefits of juicing beets and consuming beet water in general.
Beet water, which is made by blending or juicing beets with water, can be a healthy and nutritious beverage. Beets are a good source of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, and consuming them in liquid form can make these nutrients more easily absorbed by the body. Furthermore, the water left over after boiling beets, sometimes also called beet juice or beet water, can be recommended and nutritious, since when beets are boiled, some of their nutrients and antioxidants are released into the cooking water, which can then be consumed.
Here are a few potential health benefits of drinking beet water or the water left over after boiling beets:
Improved heart health: Beets contain nitrates, which can help improve blood flow and lower blood pressure, reducing the risk of heart disease.
Enhanced exercise performance: The nitrates in beets can also help improve endurance and exercise performance by reducing the amount of oxygen needed during physical activity.
Boosted immune system: Beets are a good source of vitamin C, which can help boost the immune system and promote overall health.
Better digestion: The fiber in beets can help improve digestion and promote regular bowel movements.
However, it's important to note that beet water may also contain some of the natural sugars from the beets, which can contribute to a higher calorie and sugar intake. Additionally, consuming large amounts of beet water can cause some side effects, such as digestive issues and urine discoloration and those with a history of kidney stones or taking medications should consult their physician before consuming large amounts of beet water.
Overall, drinking beet juice or the water left over after boiling beets can be a healthy addition to a balanced diet and may offer several potential health benefits, but it should be consumed in moderation and as part of an overall healthy lifestyle.
